Wherever you are on your faith journey, you are welcome at St James Episcopal Church in Amesbury!

We welcome and embrace all. There is an authentic quality of hospitality at St James that draws people in, as observed by a visitor, who told us that he was moved by our worship style, “a combination of traditional liturgy and informality.”  St James has been described as Christ-centered, joyful, spiritual, inviting, warm, friendly; with wonderful music, and a sense of belonging for all.

On Sundays we offer two unique services for spiritual reflection, renewal, fellowship, and Holy Communion.

Our 8am service is a celebration of The Holy Eucharist, Rite I. It is a quiet, reflective, spoken service with traditional language. We come together to celebrate Holy Communion.

Our 10am service is a celebration of The Holy Eucharist, Rite II, with organ music, hymns, and contemporary language. Children ages preschool-grade 4 attend Godly Play (our Montessori-based church school) in their classroom during the service, joining their families to receive Communion at the end of the liturgy.

Several Sundays in the year feature a Family Service, with a children’s homily, and children are invited to gather around the altar when Fr. John celebrates Communion. Check our website announcements and calendar for dates for our next Family Service.

St James offers Morning Prayer, Noon Prayer, Compline, and Evening Prayer from time to time. Join us, also, for the services appointed for Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, and on other occasions.

Our choir and organist offer their gifts of music at our 10am service. At both services, parishioners (including young people, grade 5 and older) are encouraged to serve as Acolytes, Chalice bearers, Ushers, Greeters, Lectors, and the Altar Guild, with training and thanksgiving for those who participate in these ministries.
